AMICAS VISION SERIES PACS CHOSEN BY WATERBURY HOSPITAL AND DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY ASSOCIATES
Proven PACS technology to integrate imaging operations of four imaging centers and community hospital facilitating paperless and filmless inpatient/outpatient patient flow

Boston, MA, April 26, 2006 /PRNewswire/ - AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced that Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, CT, has chosen AMICAS Vision Series PACS as the platform on which they will consolidate radiology within the hospital and four affiliated imaging centers.

Waterbury Hospital is a mid-size community and teaching hospital, affiliated with, among others, Yale University School of Medicine. Diagnostic Radiology Associates is a private practice radiology group consisting of 10 radiologists and operating four outpatient imaging centers in the greater Waterbury area. The 357 bed hospital will integrate AMICAS Vision Series PACS with their existing Cerner HIS (Hospital Information System), EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and RIS (Radiology Information System).

Dr. Marco Verga, a radiologist at Waterbury Hospital instrumental in the PACS evaluation process said "One of the things differentiating AMICAS from other PACS vendors is their understanding of the business of radiology, and the importance of flexible and powerful workflow support." Dr. Verga continued by saying, "the flexibility of the product, in combination with the Imaging Dashboard and RealTime Worklist, will allow our practice to efficiently provide image interpretation for the imaging centers and the hospital in a single consolidated PACS. AMICAS has a proven track record of supporting efficient, filmless and paperless radiology operations using their Web-based technology."

Vision Series PACS was designed from the ground up with integration in mind. Using the latest in Web technologies, XML and healthcare standards such as DICOM and HL-7, AMICAS has proven to be a leader in integrating images and radiology workflow with HIS, RIS & EMR products from numerous vendors. Mr. Peter McClennen, president of AMICAS said, "Recently some customers with Cerner, McKesson or Siemens IT solutions have chosen AMICAS as their PACS for its combination of excellence in filmless and paperless workflow combined with its proven integration with their HIS, RIS and EMR products."

"We’re very excited about our new partnership with Waterbury Hospital and Diagnostic Radiology Associates. We expect Waterbury to be an excellent showcase for the integration to an existing HIS/RIS/EMR and for demonstrating our Web-based technologies’ ability to smoothly integrate the operations of imaging centers and hospitals," McClennen added.
