SOUTHWEST ONCOLOGY ADOPTS AMICAS VISION SERIES AS NUCLEUS OF WORKFLOW AND COMMUNICATION
Implementation planned for AMICAS® Vision Series suite of products for end-to-end image and information management solution for optimal patient care

Boston, MA, April 20, 2006 /PRNewswire/ - AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, announced that Southwest Oncology has chosen AMICAS as their information technology partner for their state-of-the-art radiation planning and treatment facilities.

Southwest Oncology, the largest oncology group in Arizona, has offices in 4 locations covering both Arizona and Minnesota. The centers, which facilitate state-of-the-art radiation oncology treatment to virtually every part of the body, are world renowned for their advanced tomotherapy treatment.

Vision Series RIS, PACS, Financials and Document Management – fueled by the power of AMICAS’ Imaging Dashboard, will create an entirely filmless and paperless environment to streamline day-to-day operations. From patient check in, to therapy planning, to radiation treatment, radiation physicists and medical dosimetrists will have real-time access to patients’ status. Such an environment will allow the radiation oncologist to compare a patient’s treatment progress via digital images by viewing the prior imaging studies on-line anytime and from anywhere. In addition, referring physicians will also have access to the AMICAS system to review their patients’ progress consultatively with the oncologist.

"The AMICAS solution offers a Radiation Oncology package tailored to TomoTherapy (Image Guided Radiation Therapy). With the use of AMICAS’ Imaging Dashboard, our productivity will increase greatly – in turn will result in a more efficient workflow and ultimately better patient care" said Dr. Gordon Grado, founder and Medical Director of Southwest Oncology Centers and Grado Radiation Center of Excellence. "Modern radiation therapy requires an increasing number of CT and fused TomoTherapy images that need to be accessible to everyone in the department. AMICAS Vision Series PACS will allow for enterprise image distribution as well as referring physician access."

"The radiation oncology market has unique needs from a workflow perspective," said Stuart Long AMICAS’ vice president of sales-west. "From consultation through planning and treatment, requirements vary each step of the way – depending on the disease and type of treatment. We are very excited to be partnered with Dr. Grado and Southwest Oncology. Our end-to-end solution will streamline their workflow, facilitate communications within the practice and to their referring physicians, and allow them to more profitably run their business."
