AMICAS RELEASES NEW WEB-BASED INTEGRATION TOOLKIT ENHANCING RADIOLOGIST WORKFLOW AND PRODUCTIVITY
New toolkit utilizing XML technology delivers seamless integration to third party applications providing best of breed integration with Vision Series PACS

Boston, MA, February 13, 2006 /PRNewswire/ - AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in image and information management solutions, today announced the release of a new Web-based integration toolkit designed to provide seamless connectivity and integration to third party applications. With the new toolkit, AMICAS expects to deliver enhanced workflow and productivity to all users of Vision Series PACS with complementary applications of their choice. The new toolkit utilizes XML (Extensible Markup Language) technology to share context between the Vision Series PACS and any type of application such as digital document management, speech recognition, digital dictation or teaching file applications.

AMICAS expects radiologists will be able to combine the powerful imaging and workflow management tools provided by the Vision Series PACS with instant, integrated access to their preferred complementary applications without having to re-enter information such as user ID, patient name, or study information. "We believe this new toolkit will provide users with tighter integration and improved workflow resulting in saved time throughout the work day," states Mr. Rodney Hawkins, Vice President Product Management, AMICAS Inc. The toolkit is already in use by several strategic partners such as Dictaphone (radiologist dictation), Hyland Software (digital document management) and PeerVue (radiology teaching files).

Imaging teaching file vendor, PeerVue, is utilizing the new AMICAS toolkit for desktop integration to its caseVue digital teaching file solution. "Radiologists have been seeking an easy way to save interesting cases from PACS without having to perform extra clicks or re-enter patient and exam level data," says Mr. Kyle Lawton, PeerVue’s Director of Business Development. "The AMICAS toolkit allows radiologists to provide interpretations and quickly enter teaching file data into caseVue in an integrated fashion maximizing their productivity."

Another example of the toolkits’ use is PACS integration to digital document management. Using the toolkit, Vision Series PACS is now tightly integrated to Hyland Software’s document management system. "In collaboration with AMICAS, we are able to provide a very tight PACS and Document Management integrated workflow, truly saving users’ time and enhancing their productivity," notes Mr. Ed McQuiston, Director Healthcare Markets at Hyland Software. "The new AMICAS toolkit is very well designed and easy to integrate with. This is by far one of the best and fastest integrations we have created at Hyland," McQuiston adds.

"By tightly integrating the Vision Series PACS with Hyland’s Document Management solution, we are able to provide a new level of filmless and paperless workflow for imaging providers of all sizes," states Mr. Hawkins. "That added with teaching files and digital dictation provides a totally integrated imaging environment."

To date AMICAS has qualified major reporting solutions including applications from Dictaphone, Dolbey Systems and Medquist with several other systems currently being qualified.

AMICAS will be demonstrating the new integration toolkit at the annual Health Information Management Systems Society conference in San Diego, CA, February 12-16, 2006.
