AMICAS ANNOUNCES NEXT-GENERATION OF VISION SERIES PACS WITH RELEASE OF VERSION 4.1
South Shore Hospital upgrades AMICAS Vision Series PACS 4.0 to 4.1 and experiences enhanced new features with minimal downtime
Boston, MA, October 19, 2005 /PRNewswire/ - AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced the release of AMICAS® Vision SeriesT PACS 4.1-the company's latest upgrade representing a significant technological evolution in the product.
Notable to this release is its actual upgrade performance, estimated to be completed within minutes versus days, which is typical with traditional PACS systems. Vision Series PACS 4.1 represents a combination of enhanced feature functionality and seamless upgrade technology to ensure customers downtime is limited. "PACS 4.1 represents tremendous feedback from our over 200 installed customers. We took the time to truly listen to their needs and enhance our already strong PACS product with more features in direct response to their evolving needs. We believe the AMICAS Vision Series 4.1 rollout represents a landmark moment in PACS upgrades." said Rodney Hawkins, Vice President of Product Management at AMICAS, citing the company's continued goal of providing a reliable, robust, PACS and the company's heritage of building solutions in direct response to customer feedback.
Enhancements to PACS 4.1 include:
- Enhanced, enterprise wide web based workstation tools including pediatric features, new features for complex CT & MR studies with expanded support for MIP/MPR & 3D imaging
- Broader customizable workflow via added functionality to the AMICAS exclusive Imaging Dashboard
- Cutting-edge technology upgrades using the latest generation of JavaT technology
- Expanded compatibility and integration with third-party applications
"I've never seen anything like it," said Kevin Osborne, PACS administrator at South Shore for the past seven years. Rollouts like this in other IT systems and PACS can typically mean systems are down for days, even weeks. With 4.1, our internal customers never experienced any interruption in their workflow, which is absolutely crucial for patient and referring physician satisfaction."
"We recognize that in the imaging business, extended downtime associated with technology upgrades is not tolerable. This is crucial in acute care settings where emergency departments depend heavily on the services of their radiology department", said Kang Wang PhD, Vice President of Research & Development at AMICAS. "Not only did we set out to design an upgrade rich with enhanced features-we wanted to do it in such a way as to guarantee the absolute minimum of downtime for system wide upgrades." Vision Series PACS 4.1 uses advanced technologies that allow for the system to be upgraded while it continuously operates. All workstations are automatically upgraded and require very limited downtime and significantly reduced resources as compared to traditional PACS.
South Shore Hospital, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, performs over 180,000 annual studies with Vision Series PACS fully integrated to their MEDITECH HIS/RIS and Dictaphone's PowerScribe® for Radiology. They operate in a completely filmless environment with web based image distribution to physicians both inside and outside the hospital campus on hundreds of PCs. As one of the first 4.1 implementations, South Shore successfully rolled out the complete upgrade in less than two hours. This included the automatic upgrade of hundreds of PACS enabled web PC's.
AMICAS Vision Series PACS 4.1 is now commercially available. Upgrades to existing Vision Series PACS sites are currently being scheduled.
