Mount Nittany Medical Center Chooses AMICAS® PACS for Transition to True Filmless, Paperless Environment
Multi-facility medical center expects increased throughput as well as enhanced Radiologist recruitment and retention
Boston, MA, October 12, 2005 /PRNewswire/ - AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced Mount Nittany Medical Center's decision to implement AMICAS VisionSeries PACS for its in- and outpatient radiology services. The deal, which was signed in September, will transition their radiology enterprise to a truly filmless and paperless environment.
"What sold us on AMICAS was a combination of things," says Ken Bixel, Mt. Nittany's CIO. "First and foremost, as a MEDITECH site, we were impressed with AMICAS' tight integration with our HIS/RIS. Second, PACS is their business-not a mere afterthought, or a means to sell us a new hardware platform. In fact, AMICAS was extremely flexible in their hardware requirements, and they demonstrated a distinct interest in leveraging our existing infrastructure to implement a system that was right for us."
"As leaders in the imaging software market, we understand that radiology is a complex business that is constantly evolving," says Peter McClennen, AMICAS' president and COO. "Mt. Nittany is no exception. They required a PACS system that not only integrates with their MEDITECH information system, but also one that works in harmony with their existing clinical and IT investment. Our dedication to providing modular solutions that easily plug into existing technologies means we were able to meet their specifications across the board."
AMICAS Insight SolutionsSM will deliver implementation expertise for all components, including software, hardware, document management and CD burning, to ensure a smooth transition to the new filmless and paperless system.
Mount Nittany offers nuclear medicine, fixed and open MRIs, a single- and 16-slice CT, ultrasound, general X-ray, mammography, fluoroscopy, a cardiac catheterization lab (recently approved for interventional cardiology), CR with guided neurosurgical imaging, CT Scan for guided maxillofacial surgery, and PET scanning. Mount Nittany is also a founding partner of Penn State University's Cancer Institute, through which they offer oncological radiology services as well. In 2005, they performed over 110,000 studies-and have recently completed construction of a 228-seat, state-of-the-art continuing medical education center, including the ability to project digitized radiology images on a large screen.
