AMICAS Continues Its Surge In The PACS Market With 12 New Customers in Q2 2004
AMICAS Vision Series™ PACS will be implemented in 37 new sites
RIDGEFIELD, CT, July 27, 2004 AMICAS, Inc., the Web-based picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) company, a wholly owned subsidiary of VitalWorks Inc. (NASDAQ:VWKS), signed twelve new customers, most with multiple facilities, for implementation of its diagnostic image and information management system during the second quarter, ending June 30, 2004. The results represent a record in number of new customers and total number of contracted sites in a single operating quarter.
The 37 new sites include seven hospitals, representing three hospital entities, 15 sites representing four radiology group entities, and 15 outpatient diagnostic centers, representing five multi-center imaging center entities. Five out of the twelve unique customers have contracted to utilize RadConnect RIS, VitalWorks’ Web-based radiology information system integrated with AMICAS Vision Series™ Web-based PACS. The second quarter contracts also include three hospitals that utilize MEDITECH’s health care information system. These hospitals will utilize AMICAS’ integration with MEDITECH products to transform their radiology practice from a film-based operation to a digital practice.
Among the new second quarter customers are:
- Quincy Medical Center, located in Quincy, Massachusetts. Quincy Medical Center is a 282-bed community teaching hospital. AMICAS Vision Series PACS will be used to support the medical center’s 375+ physicians
- Madison Radiology, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. This 22-radiologist group provides imaging services in six counties at nine area hospitals and at over ten clinics. Madison Radiology is the largest independent radiology group in South Central Wisconsin
- A nationwide provider of radiology services which serves over 1,000 customers including imaging centers, university hospitals, community medical centers, clinics, and physician groups.
"Our products and services continue to deliver unique value to each of the three segments of our market", said AMICAS president and chief executive officer, Hamid Tabatabaie. "We view it as our responsibility to build products and services that reflect the nature of our customers’ business model, workflow, and priorities. Hospital-based radiology practices function differently from large radiology groups who in turn have distinct requirements compared to those of multi-facility and centrally-owned imaging centers. Our products and services aspire to reflect a keen understanding of our markets, and it is truly gratifying to have our company strategy be rewarded by such a diverse group of new customers."
In addition to having been rated as the #1 PACS in the KLAS Top 20 Mid-Year Report Card as announced last month (www.healthcomputing.com), AMICAS has also received the Frost & Sullivan Competitive Strategy Leadership Award during the quarter. This award is presented each year to a company whose competitive strategy has yielded significant gains in market share during the research period. As noted in the North American Turnkey Picture Archiving and Communications Systems Report (June 2004), Frost & Sullivan stated, "The acquisition of AMICAS by VitalWorks, in 2003, has fortified AMICAS by providing it with financial backing, broader customer access, and the complementary products required to become a highly competitive PACS company. Frost & Sullivan recognizes the masterful execution of this strategy by presenting it with the Competitive Strategy Leadership Award."
