Western Maryland Health System Selects VitalWorks'
Emergency Department Information System
RIDGEFIELD, CT, June 18, 2004, 2004
- VitalWorks Inc. ( NASDAQ: VWKS), a leading provider of healthcare information
and image management technology, has been selected by Western Maryland Health
System (WMHS) to provide EMstation, the company's emergency medicine electronic
medical records system, along with various related modules including triage and
nurse notes. In addition, WMHS will be interfacing the VitalWorks system with
their MEDITECH health care information system (HIS).
WMHS is a two-hospital network headquartered in Cumberland, Maryland, with
approximately 70,000 emergency department (ED) visits each year. Their ED's
currently utilize a manual system with paper medical records. The selection of
VitalWorks was made after thoroughly researching and evaluating several major
vendors in the emergency department information system space. Their decision
was based on their desire to improve the quality of their documentation, for
the purposes of both increased reimbursement and improved patient care.
