AMICAS Recruits Peter McClennen as President and Chief Operating Officer
Industry Executive Brings Broad-based Experience and Operational Excellence to Propel AMICAS To Next Level
Boston, MA, March 28, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced that industry executive Peter McClennen has joined the company to become the company's president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.
Mr. McClennen is an industry veteran of nearly fifteen years, who most recently served as the global general manager for GE Healthcare's IT PACS business, a division of General Electric Company, with revenues of over $550 million and 1,200 employees worldwide. While at GE, revenues in his division more than doubled in less than three years while the company achieved top market leadership worldwide for PACS. Prior to GE, Mr. McClennen served as the director of marketing for PACS at FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc., helping establish and build their Web-based PACS business.
Stephen N. Kahane, M.D. will remain as CEO and vice chairman of the board of directors. Mr. McClennen will lead all operational aspects of AMICAS including sales, marketing, engineering, professional services, and customer support.
"I am thrilled to have Mr. McClennen join the AMICAS team," said Dr. Kahane. "He has a proven track record of building and running world-class operations in the healthcare IT space. His experience and market knowledge is a tremendous asset to our company. Our ability to recruit a leader of Mr. McClennen's caliber speaks to the depth of our product suite, our reputation in the market, and our significant opportunities for future growth."
"I am extremely excited to join AMICAS," said Peter McClennen, AMICAS' president and COO. "I look forward to working with the AMICAS team, partnering with our customers, and continuing to deliver high value imaging IT solutions in the tradition of AMICAS. With its highly-acclaimed product suite, talented team, and proven ability to deliver customer success, I believe that AMICAS is well-positioned for future growth."
The next wave of growth in the imaging IT and PACS marketplace will come from the community hospitals and imaging centers. Industry sources including Frost & Sullivan report that PACS penetration in community hospitals and imaging centers is under 20%. "The comprehensive AMICAS suite of products, including PACS, RIS, and financial management, positions AMICAS extremely well to capitalize on this next wave of growth," notes McClennen.
